Pull 'Em Up And Show Some Respect To Yourself

As I attended my youngest child's college orientation this past weekend it occurred to me that I had done alright as a parent. When I say alright I am speaking about the way in which both my children have shown great respect for their parents, themselves and the adults that surround them. While they may have strong opinions, neither of them are disrespectful even as young adults themselves.

I write this because as I walked the campus of an institution of higher learning, I witnessed the results of poor parenting. An orientation letter that was sent to all incoming freshmen indicated that 'while there are many articles of clothing that may be fashionable today please refrain from wearing these articles as you would be making your first impressions with members of the faculty and administrators of the university.'

Yet I saw scores of young men with their pants completely off their asses and belted off at the knee. Good parenting would have prevented the rest of us from seeing this underwear display. If one father or mother would have said to their young son, "pull 'em up!" And now!

And the young ladies were not left out. Many wore some of the gaudiest outfits and skimpy articles of clothing on the planet. I asked myself where are these girls' mothers and not to my surprise I often saw the mother dressed just like the child. C'mon can't we stop trying to be our child's friend and be their parent. Cover it up young ladies! You can be sexy and appealing without showing all of your private parts.

It became obvious to me that many of these children have never really been parented once they made it to puberty. The parents decided to become the child's best friend and encouraged them in their manner of dress and actions. Trying to emulate the child to the tune of getting tacky tattoo's and piercings to show how cool they can be as an adult.

There are no schools or licensing for being a parent. But let's show some decorum and respect parents. Start telling your boys that they cannot wear their pants off their waist. Remind your little girls that they should cover up. If your child is under the age of 17 why are you allowing them to mark up their bodies with tattoos and piercing. You are the parent and can demand that they comply.

A belt is for holding your pants around your waist not your knees! I am sad to see that some municipalities have decided to legislate how to wear your pants. This is a waste of time for those cities. Better parenting goes along way.
Start being a parent and stop being a friend. Pull 'em up!

These are my words! Please post yours!

Ron B,

I can believe you just wrote this, we were just out grocery shopping and you would not believe the way these people even come out to the grocery stores. Is it so hot down here that the minds of our youth are scorched? And the young ladies, it's unreal.

Again, I would think that at this day and age our black young girls would be different than what we encountered in the past. It's really disgusting and so many of these young women think that they are actually cute. I mentor young women all the time and continue to tell them, that even though TV show women unvealing themselves recklessly to the masses, real men don't want a women like that.

I have many single friends that wonder why they are not asked to be married, and it's the same like in the old days, when a man ask a woman to marry him, that is saying alot about that woman. She has exemplified to him, that she is someone who will add quality to his life. Men are not going to marry a slut, they never have and they never will. But women still don't get it.

Sir,

I pray that the seeds of your words will be planted far and wide.

Thank you for being a good parent. That is an unsung sacrifice and service to a community, as well as the whole country.

Thank you for your service!

namaste,
You are right that those who need to read this will not because they are too caught up in trying to be "stylish" and hip.

CLNO,
All I can remember from childhood is how my mother and other women would dress daily. How when going to church or shopping meant that you were not a disgrace to yourself or your husband. I even remember how my father wore hats and I even had one. When you entered church you would hang your hat on the rack at the back of the church and retrieve it when leaving.

Now I see pajamas and bedroom slippers in the malls.

Where are all the good grandparents that use to shut down bad behavior?

Thanks for your comments.

Smile,
We must keep the pressure on those who seek to destroy our society.

That's so cool, my father did the same thing. In reading your comment, I could almost see my own father reaching for his hat when leaving church. Those were very special times. Simple times, yet, great times. Since many Americans have become so needy on the government, this has allowed this same body to strip families of their right of authority over their children, and many are afraid to say or do anything that would cause CPS to come knocking at the door. I hope that American's as a whole will now realize that liberal ideologies has no place in our society. America was founded on the type of principles that made our parents raise us with respect, character and honor. What you saw at the college is a result of taking these principles from the core of American life.

Good post Ron. Sadly too many parents today raise their children with what I call the "wild weed" method. Basically, they have children and abandon any role model or guidelines. Instead, like wild weeds, they allow the child to grow up on their own, learning morals and standards form school, friends, and so forth.
